Eyes to See

"...Jason’s voice cuts in, “Is this skin?” In a calm yet slightly horrified voice, he asks. I lower my head; my eyes are hesitant to follow. He extends both hands upward to me. Dripping between his fingers, hanging off the sides of his palms, were layers of flesh. For some reason, I was able to remain calm as I answered. “Yes, honey, that’s skin. Don't peel it off.” He calmly folds it into his palms and stands up so that we are now facing to face for the first time. He was black. He was covered in soot with his hair singed flat against his head. Then I looked into his eye…his deep colorful hazel eyes were nowhere to be seen. I was starring into two cloudy gray eyes. His pupils were only slightly visible behind the smoky layer. "

Twenty-four hours after being admitted to the burn unit, I was finally able to talk with one of Jason's surgeons. They knew I was concerned for his eyes, and I learned that they were as well. The doctor told me that he had never seen such smoke-damaged eyes before, and he honestly did not know if Jay would be able to see when he woke up...if he makes it. His doctors believed he would be needed eye surgery. They didn't see how eyes that damaged couldn't need work.

Again, this was one of those moments where I was faced with an option: Speak life...or bow to fear and project death over this situation. This gut-wrenching thought came to mind, of Jason waking up to find himself bedridden, missing all his original skin, potentially missing limbs....and not being able to see. I immediately refused to partner with fear and knew that the Lord invited me to give this one to Him. So, I chose to speak LIFE over his eyes. I was bold enough not just to ask the Lord to heal them but to restore his 20/20 vision! Nothing missing, nothing broken. Once I made up my mind at that moment, I did not waver. I was blessed to have my mother stand with me in bold faith and such a powerful group of prayer warriors choosing to believe. We prayed with great expectation. I am so glad we put our trust in the Lord because Jason has 20/20 vision...absolutely no surgery! That, my friends, is all Jesus.

Every time I look into Jason's eyes, I am reminded, yet again, of how Mighty our God is. How faithful and good He is. They also cause me to go deeper and reflect on Ephesians 1:18-21:

" I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come."

My prayer for myself and anyone reading this: Lord, open our spiritual eyes. Give us eyes to see...

How can we pray for you?

We were surrounded by thousands, in the body of Christ, praying without ceasing on our behalf. Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons a believer has. It plays a great role in how The Lord moves on this earth. We would love to now intercede and partner with you in prayer.
